This is a simple model of synchronized oscillators. Each bar is an independent node, following a periodic exponential function xk. As time progresses, each node approaches the a value of 1, at which point it resets to zero. At the same time, however, each other node sees this and becomes excited, getting an instantaneous boost of epsilon. Over time, all the oscillators will begin to pulse in phase with each other.
In nature, this behaviour can be observed in groups of crickets chirping together, or fireflies flashing as a cloud.
